Travelling

Above travelling in the UK. The roads from Manchester were really busy, but the closer we got to Horncliffe the quieter and narrower the roads got.
My trip back from work in New Zealand in comparison to travelling in the UK above. Sorry this one is not in order, but you get the idea. No traffic hardly at all. Peter was driving this time, so I could take pics from any angle.
These pictures I took a couple of days ago while going to work with Peter in the morning.
They are to good to include in a mosiac type photo.

The mist was just lying beautifully in the fields.

I love the shape of the poplars in the winter.

Whitecroft, Today's Daisies #55 and another sneak preview

I like to stay in houses when I am travelling. Hotels are ok, but once you have see one hotel room you have just about seen them all. Part of the fun of the holiday is arriving at the unknown house and exploring all its nooks and crannies. On our travels this time we stayed in a beautiful cottage in the village where I grew up. We were not disappointed exploring Whitecroft, it is a lovely, cosy, typical roses round the door, English cottage. If you want a base for exploring the very northern tip of England and the south of Scotland, this is a perfect spot. Just don't tell everyone as it is so quite, empty and almost unspoilt. There are beautiful sandy beeches, loads of castles and you are with a train journey of central Edinburgh. To see more snaps of Whitecroft click here.

I managed to find quite a few daisies hidden around the house. I would love a mirror like the one I found hidden at the back on top of the wardrobe. Below is a sneak peak at the subject of my next post.

Sneak Preview

This is the house we stayed in on our quick trip to the UK. Promise to post more once I have recovered from jet lag. Or should I say once the grumpy kids have recovered from jet lag. My youngest was up at 3:30am this morning, bounceing around!

Where I am from ............

Mum sent me a link to the website for the village I grew up in. Horncliffe is a tiny little place on the English side of the Scottish Border, just outside Berwick upon Tweed. I think the population is in the region of 150 - 200 people. Three generations of our family have lived in the village, well almost four as my kids lived there before we moved to NZ and my parents are still there.

The photograph has been taken from a postcard dated 1960, the year I was born.

Today's Daisies

Today's daisies are flowering in a boat. The boat is in the car park of a village hall back in the UK, where we used to live. The daisies were originally planted by my parents for our wedding two years ago, and have self seeded ever since. Isn't that a lovely thought. Thanks Mum for sending me the pics.

In case you are wondering why there is a boat full of flowers in a village hall car park. The reason is that the village used to be a salmon fishing village. When I was a girl (gosh don't I sound old) nearly all families living in the village had at least one fisherman in the family. Now that has all gone and the boats are no longer needed. Only rich people get to catch salmon from the Tweed now.
