The small things #2

This week's small thing is some music. I was listening to Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2, while working this morning and he played this track. I love this song. I stopped working and just listened.

And if you go here you can find Noel Gallager's version.

Now shhh, don't tell anyone but I love most Bert Bacharach songs. In fact I am quite a fan of his. Probably should start with what the world needs now. Then there have got to be some raindrops on the way to San Jose. And many, many, many more.

Simply Exciting

Just bought tickets to go and see Simply Red on valentine's day next year at Church Rd Winery. I have been listening to loads of Simply Red vids on You Tube in anticipation. This is the one I liked best. I love the original version and I really love this version. Hopefully I won't explode with excitement before February. Just off to dance around the sewing room again.

This is my ......absolute favourite band of all time.

Thank you to Curly Pops for suggesting this week's this is theme.  Here they are the Monkees.  I am really showing my age here.  The first ever contrived boy band, I think.  Now, if you had asked who my favourite artist of all time is then you might have got a more sopisticated answer.  When I was a very little girl I used to watch their show on a friday night and I loved them all.  I really thought they were so glamourous.  Over the years, I still listen to their music and enjoy it for what it is.  I have no tales of trying to see them, I was just too little and they lived very far away in a lala land.  But all through my life their music has been there and it always gets me singing and lifts my spirits.

Jack Johnson

Went to see Jack Johnson in concert on Saturday night. Both of my oldest kids were meant to be coming with us. But just as we were leaving the middle one changed his mind and decided to stay at home with his girlfriend. Luckily my eldest found a friend ready and prepared to drop everything and come along too, so the ticket was not wasted. The concert itself was brilliant, so cool, such brilliant musicians. We had a great time sitting on the hill with our picnic and listening to such gorgeous music.

Hastings District Council put on a series of Summer concerts in Cornwall Park each year. Today the string section of Hawkes Bay Symphony Orchestra were to perform works by Bach and Vivaldi. Because of the pouring rain, the venue was moved to Hawkes Bay Opera house.
The concert was excellent, even though I am not really a classical music fan. I just like to see performers playing live and I love the enthusiasm they have for their craft.
The Opera House was refurbished last year and looks brill. Attached are a couple of snaps of the repainted ceiling, sorry they are not to great, and one of the stained glass windows in the new foyer.
